Pax and Blue is a cute story that highlights the friendship of a boy named Pax, and his pigeon named Blue. Blue gets used to spending time with Pax every morning, but one morning Pax's mom was in a hurry so Blue gets lost and needs help. Pax knows just what to do help his friend.
Lori Richmond does a wonderful job of showing the friendship that blooms between Pax and Blue. Blue is a small pigeon, and Pax relates to him because he is small too. Richmond does a great job of showing the busy life of a city, and is able to incorporate the colors and places that you would see in the city. My favorite illustration is on pages 16 and 17. It shows a really cute and up close drawing of Blue when he is panicking because he is lost. I think this illustration would allow children in the classroom to laugh at the up close picture of the pigeon.
Pax and Blue could be used in a Kindergarten classroom to teach the importance of friendship. In the book it says, "And you don't leave a friend behind." I think that it is important for children to notice that they should help one another if they see that someone is struggling or is needing help.
