17 Things I'm Not Allowed to Do Anymore is a really cute book about a little girl that keeps getting herself into trouble. She keeps trying things out, and then the adults in her life keep putting a stop to them. The adults tell her that she is no allowed to do these things anymore. It is so silly to see the things that she gets herself into.
The illustrations by Nancy Carpenter in 17 Things I'm Not Allowed to Do anymore are able to show the reader how the little girl tests her luck. Carpenter uses pictures and drawings to captivate the humor in the book.
I think that this book could be used to teach that actions have consequences. I would have the students write about a time that their actions had consequences. For ELL, I would let them record themselves telling about a time that their actions have had consequences. This would book would best be used for first to third grade. I think that children would think that this book is so funny, but they would also be able to realize why she is not allowed to do those things anymore.
Great ideas for this book! Sounds like it could go along with the self control standard?
